Thank you for your potential interest in part time staff positions with the Campus Way. The following information is being provided to give you a better feel for the position. Below is also an application form. If you're interested in a position please fill out that application. We will then contact you to discuss the position further. Please check out our website to take a look at our mission and strategy for the Campus Way.
What is the goal? The goal of a Campus Way staff person is to build and disciple a student leadership team on a high school or middle school campus. Although it is a goal of the Campus Way to reach as many kids as possible on campus with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the goal of the staff is to develop the student leaders to become better followers and disciple makers on Campus now, while in the process develop Christian disciple makers for a lifetime.
How do you build the student leadership team? Although not absolutely essential that the staff person have a connection to the campus, it is very helpful if the staff person works on campus, lives in the community, or has a connection to kids through a church to begin building a team. It is part of the staff person's job to network with students and adults in the community and in the school in order to develop a student leadership team. In some schools, the current staff may have some connections to help get that process started.
What do you do with the leadership team? Typically you will meet with your leadership team every week or every other week to have fun, study God's word together, grow in your devotion to Jesus and His mission, and plan your campus meeting. The Campus Way will provide training and ongoing mentoring to you to help you in discipling your team.
How do we reach the campus? Through your student leadership team you will plan, promote, network and implement a before or after school meeting where you will have lots of fun, and then either open God's word together, bring in a speaker, have a student testimony, watch a Christian video, or enjoy small group biblical interaction, and then perhaps enjoy some food together.
Is this legal on a public Campus? Due to the equal access law, religious campus clubs are allowed on nearly all campuses. Student leadership for campus clubs that meet on campus is required. This fits the model of the Campus Way very well since our goal is to develop and disciple Christian student leaders. Typically leadership meetings are held off campus where school rules would not apply. The general campus meetings can be help on campus or off campus.
How many hours a week would I work? A typical position would be about 7 hours per week. This would allow for a leadership meeting, campus meeting, preparation and prayer, as well as have some time left over for a two monthly fellowship and training meetings with the director and other staff for fellowship, encouragement, and training. With that being said, each campus and position may be different and be customized to each particular staff and campus. Additional things a staff person may do are show up at a student's practice or game, or find another opportunity to just let your kids know you care for and are thinking about them. The Campus Way ministry staff positions are not necessarily paid for hours worked but instead for faithfulness to ministry tasks.
What is the rate of pay? The average monthly pay is$200 to $500 per month depending upon experience, faithfulness, success, and partnership in fundraising. The maximum potential for our staff is to earn $7500 for eleven montlhs. Our staff are trained and extensively supported in this area! We have several fundraising events and opportunities to raise money througout the year. Examples are an annual dinner in October, year end ask in December, a run/walk/bike event in May, and a golf outing in May. In addition part of your position is funded through monthly donors that we help you to procure.
What about tax deductibility? The Campus Way is a 501c3. All donations are tax deductible.
Is experience required? Experience in past youth ministry as a volunteer or paid position is encouraged but not mandatory. The Campus Way will provide both training and ongoing mentoring of Campus Way staff. Experience in leadership and/or bible study leadership is also encouraged.
Would I work during school breaks? School breaks would be off times for the ministry. Some day we could schedule a camp during a break but that is not currently planned. Staff people get consistently paid 11 months of the year despite breaks.
What about the summer? The summer would in large part be off time. Your attendance at a 4-5 day summer camp with your students would be required. That camp is typically in late June. My guess is that this is something, after you've experienced it, you would not want to miss. Additionally, you will want to schedule some outings for your leaders over the summer and begin to meet with them weekly beginning in August to prepare for the upcoming year. It is important to maintain contact with your student leaders. Each staff person's summer situation may be set up differently depending upon the staff person's schedule.
Where is the headquarters for the Campus Way? The headquarters for the ministry is at a 6000 sq. ft. office location in Wales Wisconsin. All of our training takes place in Wales. It is required that all staff come to staff meetings which are once per month with everyone and then once per month on a smaller more flexible basis. There will be additional training dates in August and September for new and existing staff that are currently not scheduled.
Where is the Campus Way looking to expand? We would like to branch out from our office location. However, where God raises up staff will have a large bearing on where we grow. We want to help you get a ministry going at a school where you are likely to have success and where God is leading you.
What are the other requirements or responsibilities? Probably the most important thing for a good Campus Way Staff is to have a solid walk with Jesus. A great indication of that is to be connected to a local church, your Bible, a small group, and with God and His Holy Spirit in prayer.
What do I do if I am interested? Fill out the following inquiry/application form. We will then respond to you to set up a meeting to get to know one another and discuss things further.
