I would like to take this opportunity to give you an encouraging update on the growth of the Campus Way as well as make an important announcement about God’s furthering call on my family’s life.
The Campus Way continues on its path of exciting growth. Five additional campuses will be added this school year, and all six existing campuses will continue to build on last year’s success. To help accommodate this growth, we have expanded some staff roles. Mark James, one of my closest allies, has been on staff with the Campus Way for over two years and youth pastor for four, is now a part time Campus Way staff mentor. He will be working directly with me to train, mentor and shepherd new and existing staff. In addition, Abigail Kean, a Kettle Moraine High School (KMHS) teacher who had volunteered last year, has now been undergoing extensive training in order to assist me in leading the KMHS Campus Way. I am thankful to God for bringing these great people into the ministry at this important time. These people, as well as our very talented administrator, Corrine Nareski, give the Campus Way a great core team that now allows Kelly and me to move forward in following God’s lead in our lives “to see the Body of Christ awakened and engaged in fulfilling the Great Commission.”
Kelly and I are excited to announce the igniting of a discipleship movement in the context of a new church, called Great Mission Church. This has been stirring for over two years and God has now released us to move forward. I will continue to direct the Campus Way along with my team. The new primary principle of Great Mission Church will be implementing the biblical discipleship strategies that I have meditated on, researched, and implemented in both the Campus Way and those around me. While the new church effort is still in its infancy, you can find out more about it and follow its path to fruition at www.greatmissionchurch.org.
Thank you for your support and prayers. We hope to see you at the Campus Way’s Harvest Dinner on October 8th at Saxes in Delafield at 5:30pm. An invitation should be mailed to your home shortly. Attached is a question and answer sheet that will give you more information about the Campus Way and Great Mission Church and how they will operate independently of one another. As always, I also welcome any questions or comments you may have about the Campus Way or Great Mission Church.
Sincerely,
Jay Cavaiani
Director-Campus Way
Question and Answers
Question: Is the Campus Way a ministry of the new church?
Answer: No, the Campus Way will remain an independent, interdenominational, Christian campus ministry. The Church will be an independent 501C3 organization with a completely separate budget.
Question: Will Campus Way students be encouraged to attend Great Mission Church?
Answer: The policy will remain as it always has been. Unchurched students are encouraged to attend church. Our staff, several of whom are youth pastors of other churches, are encouraged to plug students into a church. That may be the staff person’s church or the church of another student in the Campus Way who can help that student get to a church. Students with an existing church relationship are not encouraged to change churches.
Question: Will the Campus Way become part of a denomination?
Answer: No, the Campus Way never has nor has any intention of becoming part of a denomination.
Question: How will Jay lead both a church and Campus Way?
Answer: As indicated in the letter, with the addition of a staff mentor, a committed staff intern working with Jay at KM High, and our office administrator, we have a team in place to help Jay direct the Campus Way Ministry and start Great Mission Church. Every organization, or religious movement, even Jesus’, needs to develop leadership, in order to impact more people for the Kingdom. We will continue as our #1 priority, making disciples equipped to lead in both our students and staff.
Question: Will the money given to the Campus Way only be used for the Campus Way?
Answer: Yes, all donations given in the past and the future will be exclusively used for the ministry of the Campus Way. The organizations are separate legal entities with separate budgets.
Question: Will the Campus Way and Great Mission Church have any connection?
Answer: Legally no, logistically yes. There will be people, like Jay and some staff, who may work both for the Campus Way and Great Mission Church. In these isolated cases each ministry will be responsible for the portion of work they do for that entity.
Question: How does this help or hurt the Campus Way fiscally?
Answer: In the future this will provide much relief to the Campus Way. It will lessen the budget in the future as Jay supplements his work load with part time assistance and reduces his salary in correlation to the change in position.
Question: How will Jay’s position and salary be changed?
Answer: The Campus Way Board has been very involved in these changes and will be working with Jay to reduce his compensation, as he has voluntarily offered, as the Church begins.
Question: How can the Campus Way afford all of the new staff and growth in the economy?
Answer: We feel so blessed to have the type of growth we have seen. However, without a reduction in budget we would have had reason to be concerned about growing at the rate we are. In this way Jay starting a church and voluntarily reducing his salary allows the ministry to grow by hiring new staff.
Question: Will Campus Way now be its own entity or a ministry of Great Mission Ministries?
Answer: The Campus Way will now be its own, sole 501c3 called the Campus Way. No longer will it be The Campus Way a Great Mission Ministry, nor will it be connected to any other ministry or church.
Question: How can we pray for the Campus Way and the Cavaiani’s?
Answer: Please pray for all of the new staff, new schools, the Campus Way’s very important Harvest Dinner on October 8th, and the start of their church, Great Mission Church.
