What’s in a name?  The WAY        

From the initial stages of developing the Campus Way there was desire to not be luke warm in our faith.  One of the knocks on campus ministry is that sometimes it is a social club verses a place to truly deepen your faith.  The Campus Way is committed to going deep and our mission is clear.  Our mission in three words is: Make disciple-makers.  Our full mission is to disciple students to be followers of Christ and His mission to reach their campus now, and their community for a lifetime. 

After Jesus ascended into heaven the disciples were left with His mission in the Great Commission to:  “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This is why the Campus Way exists, period.  We want to do our part to follow Jesus lead in making disciples.  Part of the goal in making disciples is to help others to trust in Christ or become saved but the goal does not end there.  We want to reach the lost on campus but even more than that we want to make disciple makers of Christian students and give them the taste and joy of being used by God.  We also believe, as we believe  Jesus does too, that by focusing on making disciples we will help more people to come to Christ.

So why the Way?  One of the most vibrant times Christianity ever had was when the first disciples were living out this mission.  The depth of their faith was evident.  People were coming to Christ in great numbers and the fellowship of the believers was heartfelt.  At that time another name used to describe the believers was that they were followers of the Way.  Since we admire so greatly their faith, Christ’s power displayed in them, and their passion for His mission we are both honored and humbled to have those qualities in our name.

Are we creating our own faith or religion?  Absolutely not.  The Campus Way is a Bible based, non-denominational Christian ministry.  We are interdenominational in the sense that we do not focus on differing Christian denominations.  We encourage students to be involved in a local church where they are being fed spiritually and in God’s word.  More information regarding our statement of faith can be found at www.campusway.org.
